Come first of January and things are quick to go back to their usual in the world. People go back to work, children go back to school and shops go back to releasing new deals and already planning their advertisement for Valentine’s.
Now everyone knows there are times of the year perfect for purchasing specific items and times of the year to skip on a few things. January comes with an array of offers from retailers because January is a slow month in retail and shops are feeling it with sale now declining more than at any other time of the year.
Maybe it’s the holiday shopping guilt or maybe it’s just taking it slow in the first few weeks of the new year, but shoppers aren’t shopping and businesses struggle. However, if you managed to maintain your spending budget over the holidays and you have money to shop now, here are the things worth purchasing in January.
Fitness gear and equipment
Anything from athletic shoes and fitness apparel to yoga mats, dumbbells, elliptical equipment, treadmills and whatever else fitness equipment you can think of goes on sale in January. Depending on retailers, fitness merchandise should sell at up to 70% off regular pricing and you should be able to score good deals in-store and online.
January is also an excellent month to join a gym and try some classes if you’ve been putting it off because memberships are usually cheaper now and you can save more than $100 on getting in shape.
It’s not as if with Christmas and New Year’s Eve over winter is also gone, but retailing has a world of its own and in the world of retailing, January is the best time to buy winter clothing.
Any moment now shops will be showcasing spring merchandise or at least hinting at it and prices will drop considerably for winter accessories like gloves, hats, scarves and winter clothes. But don’t rush into anything just yet and don’t settle for anything less than steep discount.
Also remember that the longer into January that you wait, the deeper the discounts will be but also the poorer the selection.
Furniture and home goods
If you didn’t know that January is one of the best months to purchase furniture if not the best month of the year (some would argue another month is July and they would also be right), now is a good time to familiarize yourself with furniture and home goods shopping.
After-Christmas sale is huge at retailers the likes of Target and Home Depot that usually discount furniture all through January and you can even find deals that go up to 75% off usual pricing. In February new models come out and older models have to go so retailers are looking to clear space to accommodate for new merchandise.
Tip: One other thing that will save you money in January if you plan on doing any trips now is national parks. Over 400 national parks are offering free admission on January 19 for the Martin Luther King celebration.
